Plus/Minus Grade Policy

In November 1994 President Roger Sayers approved an exemption from the plus/minus grading for all students who entered the University before fall semester 1994. Under the grandfathering provisions, all students who entered The University of Alabama before fall 1994 and all transfer students to The University of Alabama who entered a higher education institution before fall semester 1994 will be grandfathered under the previous grading system. All first-time entering freshmen who enrolled in fall semester 1994, and all others who enroll thereafter, will be under the plus/minus grading system adopted by The University of Alabama faculty in May 1992. The grade point averages for students who are grandfathered will be calculated on the previous 4-point scale.
