Code | Description | Definition | Applicable Schedule Types |
---|---|---|---|
AV | Interactive Audio/Video | Course is taught via remote interactive A/V (e.g., Zoom) in keeping with the assigned meeting schedule from an origination site to one or more reception sites or via streaming media technologies. The interactive A/V-delivered components include real-time teaching and learning activities. The interactive A/V-delivered components reduce the time traditionally spent in the face-to-face portion of the class. Lectures, interactive activities and assignments are delivered in real time with two-way exchange capabilities between instructor and student during the designated class period. | APS CLN EXM IND LAB LEC LLB PRA RCT RES SEM THD |
EI | External Instruction | Greater than 50% of the teaching and learning activities are delivered outside of an approved UA campus, including, but not limited to, courses involving travel. The remainder of the teaching and learning activities can be any combination of face-to-face, technology, and/or correspondence delivery. | All Schedule Types are Valid |
FA | Face-to-Face | Course is taught primarily in person at a UA campus location, or is directed by instruction that originates from a UA campus. Course may include Independent Study, Research, and Thesis/Dissertation work. Face-to-face courses may include technology-delivered components such as online syllabi and online lecture notes. However, the majority of teaching and learning activities are classroom-based, and the technology-delivered components do not reduce the time traditionally spent face-to-face in the classroom. | APS CLN EXM IND LAB LEC LLB PRA RCT RES SEM THD |
HY | Hybrid | Course is taught as a blend of F2F, interactive A/V (e.g., Zoom) and internet methods described in this guide. In all cases, these courses provide a weekly opportunity for face-to-face instruction for every enrolled student. This standard might be achieved through rotating attendance (required or voluntary), whereby a fraction (e.g., one-third to one-half) of the students attend in-person on a rotating schedule according to the class meeting schedule. Faculty may choose to hold either a synchronous interactive A/V or recorded class session will be promptly available to students who did not attend any face-to-face session. Further, faculty/instructors choosing only to provide recorded class sessions for students not participating in any face-to-face session will provide at least one weekly opportunity for an interactive A/V meeting (e.g., office hours) with students. Individualized face-to-face meetings or interactive A/V meetings between students and faculty/instructors are encouraged but not required. The overall workload of the class must be the same as it would be if the class was delivered in the traditional face-to-face format. Normally, 30%-50% face-to-face teaching and learning activities are expected. | APS CLN EXM IND LAB LEC LLB PRA RCT RES SEM THD |
IN | Internet | Course content is delivered online. While online courses may require proctored exams, there are no other place-bound requirements. Regular interactions between students and instructor are a part of the teaching and learning process. Although not all student-instructor interactions will be synchronous, faculty are discouraged from using a solely asynchronous online platform. Distance courses offered by the Office of Teaching Innovation and Digital Education or other units (e.g., graduate programs in nursing) in which there has historically been no face-to-face instruction are exempt from this rule. | CLN IND LAB LEC LLB PRA RES SEM THD |
